This talk will introduce you to a new process called Design Swarming that is becoming popular in business, non-profit and education settings around the world. Design Swarming is a highly-structured, hackathon-like process that solves hard problem with agile teams with zero pre-work or no previous knowledge of the problem domain.
Surya Vanka will describe how people with no background in design or innovation can be quickly introduced to adopt mindset of radical collaboration, high velocity, and extreme creativity. They are then facilitated through a highly-structured, hackathon-like process in teams are made up groups of designers, technologists, entrepreneurs, and many others through design thinking sprints over the course of six hours to create a Minimum Viable Experiences (MVX). He will share examples of how this extremely lean process has produced innovative outcomes in addressing hard problems like homelessness, refugee crises, water scarcity, ocean pollution, aging, and disaster relief. The talk will be followed by a discussion on adopting design swarming to your own work.
